Getting "Received Break" errors in OmniServer Logger.

"Received Break: COM1" is caused by one of four conditions:

  • Handshaking error - The communications parameters do not match between the server and the device (Even Party instead of Odd, RTS Flow control instead of None). You will need to check your COM settings in OmniServer to insure they are correct.
  • Bad RS-232 card (if using one) - Simply a bad hardware component. Test and replace as necessary.
  • Bad cabling - Too much noise on the line or at the very limits of serial cabling restrictions. Use either a shorter cable or go to a shielded cable.
  • Bad device - The device itself is not programmed correctly or is in hardware failure.

If the COM configuration settings are correct, then there is a hardware problem. The "Received Break" error is being generated at the operating system level and not from OmniServer, so if the OmniServer settings are right, it must be a hardware problem. Unfortunately, Windows provides no other explanation as to the cause, so what hardware is malfunctioning cannot be determined.
