Receiving -5006 Errors when installing TOP Server

I want to install my TOP Server product. When I launch the "topserverdemo.exe" program, I receive the following error: Error -5006: 0x80004005 ...and the installation program stops. How do I fix this error?

This error is coming from InstallShield, which is the program we use to install most of our products (not just TOP Server). Normally, this error means that something has been corrupted with the InstallShield files.

To fix the problem:

Launch the program from Windows. To do this:

  1. Go into your Control Panel and select "Add/Remove Programs".
  2. Click on the "Add New Programs" icon.
  3. Click on the "CD or Floppy" button.
  4. Click on the "Browse" button and select the path to the installation program.
  5. Click OK to start the installation.

If the above doesn't work, go into your Windows file explorer and rename the two directories "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield" and "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information". Do NOT delete the directories - just rename then. For example, you can append the word "_old" to each name. Then, run the installation program.

If neither fix works for you, please give us a call.

If you are running Windows 2003 Server or Terminal Services, rename the TOP Server install file (topserverdemo.exe) to setup.exe and this should resolve the problem.  Microsoft made a change that causes errors in installs that are not named setup.
