Problem Opening S7 Project with S5/S7 For Windows Programming Software

I want to open an S7 project from my PC.  When I go to File in the program and I click in open project, it only gives me the option .s5p and I cannot open a project in S7.

The .S5P file extension that the software is looking for when you try to open the project is the standard file extension for programs in this specific software.

To open an existing Step 7 project you must import it to the S5/S7 software. Please use the following steps:

  1. Open the S5/S7 For Windows Programming Software.
  2. Click File
  3. Click "Import From Step 7 Project
  4. In the Import from Step 7 dialogue, browse to the location of your program, highlight it and click the button at the bottom "Import Completely".

You will then need to save your project in the S5/S7 format.  It will save the project in four files with extensions as follows:

  • Project File - *.S5P
  • Program File - *.S5
  • Symbolic File - *.SEQ
  • S7 Hardware Config - *.CF7

These are the standard file extensions for the program and does not indicate that it is being saved in S5 format.
