Connecting HMI to Horner XLe
How can I connect my HMI to Horner XLe OCS with an XEC Ethernet module?
At introduction (July 2006), the XLe supported communication only using the Horner proprietary CsCAN protocol through the HEXEC Ethernet add-on. There has been a limitation, however, of one XLe communicating at a time through this method.
With the latest version of XLe firmware, XXX, released on 02/08/2007, the XLe can now support Modbus slave serial protocol through the Ethernet port. That is - RTU/Modbus serial protocol encapsulated in Ethernet. If the TOP Server software is used, this allows any OPC client software to access data from the XLe via this method. This also allows literally hundreds of XLe units to be accessed from a single OPC server - not just one.
So the short answer is as follows:
Modbus serial protocol encapsulated over Ethernet - with TOP Server's Modbus suite.
