How to get the InTouch Client Driver reading successfully
I am using the InTouch Client driver and when I open the OPC Quick Client to test my connection all my tags have BAD Quality. What am I missing?
There are a few different items you need to make sure are correct to successfully communicate.
- Make sure the TOP Server and InTouch Application are on the same PC.
- TOP Server must be set to Interactive mode for the InTouch Client Driver to work.
- Right click on the TOP Server icon in the System Tray and select Settings
- In the Runtime Process tab change the Selected Mode to Interactive
- Click OK and close the Setting window
- Since TOP Server is configured to Interactive, the runtime process requires the appropriate permissions. Please follow the steps below to grant the logged user the proper permissions:
- Open Component Services
- Navigate to Computers ⇒ My Computer ⇒ DCOM Config
- Look for Toolbox OPC Power Server 6.x ⇒ right click ⇒ click on properties
- Select the "Identity" Tab
- Select "The launching user" and click Apply (If the "the launching user" is grayed out is because TOP Server is not configured to Interactive mode)
- Click OK
- Open the Device Properties in TOP Server. Go to the Tag Import Setting tab. Ensure that the InTouch project folder path is set to the InTouch project you are using.
- The InTouch project MUST be in RUNTIME mode.
- Make sure the System Path is configured as stated in the InTouch Client Driver Help File under Driver Setup ⇒ System Configuration. Instructions for Windows are included below.
- Bring up "Control Panel"Select the "System" icon
- Select the "Advanced" tab
- Click on "Environment Variables"
- Under "System variables", select "Path" then click "Edit"
- Append the current setting with a semicolon and the path to your InTouch folder. This will generally be of the form "C:\Program Files\FactorySuite\InTouch" for InTouch version 7.1 or "C:\Program Files\Wonderware\InTouch" for version 8.0. The actual path on your system may differ. Adding it towards the beginning usually yields better requests then appending to the end
- Click the "OK" button
- REBOOT your PC for the changes to take effect
We have found that some systems require adding the path to both the beginning and the end of your System Variable Path. Additionally, in some scenarios it may also be required to adjust the wwHeap Memory Start location within the InTouch Node Properties.
