Can I use a DNS name or hostname instead of an IP address in the TOP Server?
Can I configure the TOP Server to use a DNS name or hostname for my device, instead of an IP address?
Yes! The TOP Server will accept a DNS name in place of the IP address when setting up the device configuration for select drivers (not all drivers currently support this functionality).
This feature is currently supported for the following drivers (if an Ethernet driver is not listed, it will require the use of the IP address):
- Bristol/IP (BSAP over Ethernet)
- CODESYS (V2.3 Only)
- ControlLogix Ethernet
- DNP Ethernet
- Fisher ROC Ethernet
- Fisher ROC Plus Ethernet
- IEC 60870-5-104 Ethernet Master
- Micro800 Ethernet
- Modbus TCP Ethernet
- MTConnect
- MQTT Client
- Omron NJ Ethernet
- OPC Client Suite Drivers (UA / DA / XML-DA)
- Siemens TCP Ethernet
- Siemens S7 Plus Ethernet
- SNMP Suite (SNMP & Ping Driver)
