Native Tag Database Import Required with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Server Ethernet Driver

The TOP Server Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Server Ethernet driver requires a Native Tag Database file to be configured and imported in order to generate the internal list of available addresses and access permissions that external Logix Client controllers will be able to access in the driver. This is required for successful operation of the driver, which means that manual creation of tags only is not sufficient.

The static tags created in the TOP Server configuration are client side tags only with their own read/write access permissions.

A sample Native Tag Database .csv file installs with TOP Server in the following directory and is also attached to this answer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Software Toolbox\TOP Server 6\Drivers\controllogix_unsolicited_ethernet

Use this template file as a guide for the required format. Once you have added the tags you wish your Logix Client controller to have access to in the driver, you'll need to import the database in your TOP Server configuration as follows:

  1. Open the properties of your device in your TOP Server configuration.
  2. Under Native Tag Database, click the Import Database button.
  3. Browse to your completed import file and click Open.
