OmniServer Upgrade Procedure - Versions 2.6 or Higher to Current Version

I currently have OmniServer V2.6 (or higher) installed and want to migrate to the latest version.  What is the procedure I need to follow to make sure my protocols and configuration still work in the latest version?

Updates from previous versions will not recognize previous registrations. If you purchased an upgrade, we reset your existing serial/license number. If your current license is covered by a support/maintenance agreement, the upgrade is included at no additional charge - please contact us to reset your license (please include your serial/license number). You will need to re-register your existing license once the current version is installed. You can register here or please contact us if you require assistance.

To upgrade from Version 2.6 or Higher:

  1. IMPORTANT: Please make a backup of your existing version installation directory. Although nothing in this procedure will destroy the that directory, it's always best to have backups.
  2. If you are running the current version as a service, stop the service. To do this, first launch the OmniServer configuration program and select View ⇒ Runtime options from the OmniServer menu. Uncheck the "Run as a service" option, then exit. Finally, check the Services section in your system's Administrative tools and insure that the server has been stopped and is disabled.
  3. If you are not running the current version as a service, stop the polling for OmniServer by right-clicking on the icon in the icon tray and selecting Exit. If you do not see the icon, then OmniServer Poller is not running.
  4. Install the current version. The installation process will copy your existing protocols and configuration to appropriate directory for OmniServer in one of the below directories:
    1. XP/2003 Server - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Software Toolbox\OmniServer
    2. Vista/7/8/2008/2012 Server - C:\ProgramData\Software Toolbox\OmniServer
  5. Launch the configuration program and register the current version with your existing license number.  The required unlock code can be obtained by going to our online registration center.  If you did not contact us prior to installation to reset your license, you will need to submit a re-registration request first. We will reset your existing license number and provide a new unlock code.

And that's all there is to it! Your next step will be to test the updated installation with your configuration and protocols just to confirm that everything still works as expected.
