OPC Historical Data Access Server

OPC HDA Support

[PDF version here]

TOP Server now supports the OPC Historical Data Access 1.20 interface when using the TOP Server Local Historian plug-in.  TOP Server also supports OPC DA, OPC A&E, OPC .NET 3.0 / Xi and Native interfaces and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.

Many customers sometimes have a need for a smaller historian application that is easy to configure, flexible and cost-effective to complement an enterprise level historian solution in certain situations. The TOP Server Local Historian plug-in is NOT intended as a replacement or substitute for a full-blown, enterprise-level historian solution.

OPC HDA Interface and Local Historical Data Access

The TOP Server Local Historian plug-in is a local data store for capturing historical information in an easy to configure, flexible, open and cost-effective solution that exposes historical buffered data via OPC HDA to any OPC HDA capable client applications.  Situations where this functionality may be beneficial as a complementary solution to an enterprise historian are:

  • In laboratories where external access by an enterprise historian may not be possible but maintaining historical records is necessary.
  • In off-shore oil/gas drilling rigs where enterprise access to local data may not be possible.
  • In small factories with very small historical archival needs where an enterprise solution may not be feasible at this phase of the company’s development.
  • In discrete manufacturing operations where a specific solution is necessary without exposure to a centralized historian solution.
  • In situations where it is desired to have a validation tool for data being historized by an enterprise historian solution - TOP Server Local Historian plug-in can feed locally buffered historical data into enterprise solutions.
