TOP Server 6 Installer Not Trusted
I am getting an "Installation failed. is not trusted" error when I try to run my TOP Server v6 installer. How can I install TOP Server v6 on my machine?
This could also happen with V5.21.235.
The TOP Server uses a digitally signed installer so that you can be sure the installer has not been tampered with, and that the installer is from a trustworthy source - a GlobalSign certificate is used for this.
With systems that do not have access to the internet, and/or are on an isolated environment, it is possible that this GlobalSign authority will not appear in the list of Trusted certificates since it would have been installed via Windows Updates - the install is therefore not trusted and failing.
In order to allow the installer to start you will need to manually install the Root Certificates that are required. The link below will download three Root Authority Certificates, please make sure these are installed on any machine that TOP Server is being installed on that is seeing this problem. This link will download three certificates:
- Microsoft Root Certificate Authority 2011 - Serial Number 3f 8b c8 b5 fc 9f b2 96 43 b5 69 d6 6c 42 e1 44
- GlobalSign Root CA R3 - Serial Number 04 00 00 00 00 01 21 58 53 08 a2
- DigiCert Assured ID Root CA - Serial Number 0c e7 e0 e5 17 d8 46 fe 8f e5 60 fc 1b f0 30 39
TOP Server 6.x Root Certificate Authority Certificates
This file will need to be copied to the machine that TOP Server is being installed on, and installed prior to running the TOP Server installer. This process will vary slightly between server level operating systems and non-server level operating systems.
To install the certificates:
- Open a Microsoft Management Console by searching for and running MMC from the start menu.
- In the MMC click File ⇒ Add/Remove Snap-in... which will open the "Add or Remove Snap-ins" Window.
- In the "Add or Remove Snap-Ins" window, click on "Certificates" in the left column and select the "Add" button. Click through the wizard, on the second page make sure you use the "Computer account" and NOT the "My user" or "Service" accounts. On page three, make sure that the "This snap-in will always manager:" setting is set to "Local Computer:"
- Once the Certificates (Local Computer) option appears in the Right Column of the "Add or Remove Snap-Ins" window press OK to close the window - The "Certificates (Local Computer)" should now appear under "Console Root" in the MMC Window opened in step 1.
- Expand the Certificates store, and right click on the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" Folder and select All Task ⇒ Import...
- Browse to the three certificates above and install them one at a time
- Close the certificate manager console
At this point, the installer should complete without problems.
If the installer still will not complete, it may be necessary on some systems to also add the certificates to the "Third-Party Root Certification Authorities".
