TOP Server V6 Project Backup Configuration and Directory
In the TOP Server V6 Runtime Options, I can configure TOP Server to backup my runtime project prior to replacing it with a new project, as well as configuring the number of backups to maintain. Where are these backup project files saved to?
If you have configured TOP Server V6 to backup your runtime projects, those backup project files are saved to the following location:
C:\ProgramData\Software Toolbox\TOP Server\V6\Project Backups
By default C:\ProgramData\ is a hidden folder, to display hidden items in File Explorer go to View > check the "Hidden Items" box.
The following syntax is used for saving backup files:
default-xxx.opf
where xxx represents a number starting with 000 and incrementing upward for each additional backup file saved until the specified number of backup files is reached. After this point, starting back at 000, each file will be replaced as the runtime project is backed up.
The TOP Server Runtime always connects to "default.opf". When you open a project or create a project and apply the changes to the runtime configuration, the "default.opf" project is replaced or updated, rather than the .opf project that you created and named being accessed by the TOP Server Runtime. This is the reason that all backup projects will be named a variation of "default.opf".
It is for that reason that you do NOT want to delete, rename, or move the "default.opf" project file unless you need to revert to a backup project. Should you need to revert to one of the backup project files, stop the TOP Server Runtime and simply remove the "-xxx" number section from the end of the backup file and replace the current "default.opf" project in the referenced directory above.
Configuration of the number of backup files maintained by TOP Server is accessible through the TOP Server Administration settings (right-click on Administration icon in the Windows System Tray, then select Settings). Project Backup settings are located in the Runtime Options section.
