TOP Server License Status Showing Broken or Cannot be Accessed

The TOP Server licensing is based on a trust relationship between the licensing service, and the machine/hardware profile of the computer on which the license is running. If this trust relationship is broken (i.e. the licensing service no longer trusts that it is running on the same machine where the license was originally activated) the TOP Server license utility will show that the license status is Broken with a sub status explaining why.
 
The most likely statuses are:
Broken Status Possible Cause(s) Possible Solution(s)
Clock Windback
The system time was modified after registration - Possibly to
  • Extend the use of a time limited license.
  • Fix an incorrect system clock.
  • Because of a failing CMOS battery.
Correct the system time and reactivate the license if it is not reactivated automatically.
Binding
  • The license has been moved to another computer.
  • Substantial hardware changes (or virtual hardware changes in the case of a VM) have been detected and the machine no longer appears to be the same as where the license was originally activated.
  • The virtual machine on which the license is running was restored from a snapshot.
The license must be recovered by our support. If in an emergency please activate your emergency ID or contact us using the links to the right.
 
Activating the emergency ID will automatically notify us there is a problem with the license
Anchoring
  • The License was manually restored after being transferred to a different computer (i.e. by restoring a backup after the license was transferred off the machine)
  • A third party application has overwritten the data used to maintain trust with the license.

Activating the emergency ID will automatically notify us there is a problem with the license
Cannot Be Accessed
  • The trusted protected license store has been compromised or corrupted
  • This can occur when reverting virtual machines back to a prior snapshot because the system cannot tell the difference between a valid reversion and a reversion done to circumvent licensing
