OPC Client Considerations when connecting to DeltaV OPC DA Server
How can I connect my OPC client to DeltaV OPC DA Server?
How can I connect my OPC client to DeltaV OPC DA Server?
The ProgID for DeltaV OPC DA server is "OPC.DeltaV.1". You can use this in your OPC client to point to the DeltaV OPC Server.
There are two other requirements to connect your OPC client to DeltaV.
- The OPC client application must be a 32-bit application. DeltaV OPC Server does not accept connections from 64-bit OPC clients.
- The OPC client application must be running under one of the following options:
- The default DeltaVAdmin user
- Any other user account as long as access is allowed from DeltaV
If your OPC client is a 32-bit application and it is running under the DeltaVAdmin user, but you are still experiencing communication issues (particularly with a remote OPC DA connection), then you will want to consider the DeltaV machine's DCOM configuration and whether a firewall is potentially blocking the communications.
Software Toolbox Solution:
If your OPC client is only offered in a 64-bit version, the Software Toolbox solution, Cogent DataHub, can act as a 32-bit OPC client to DeltaV and then also act as an OPC DA server to your 64-bit OPC client. This solution would work with any version of the DeltaV OPC Server. Please feel free to contact our support team at support@softwaretoolbox.com for more information regarding Cogent DataHub.
