What is the method used to connect Wonderware tags to the TOP Server?

In the TOP Server configure at least on tag in the server to check communications between the Server and the PLC or device. See the Server Help on "How to design a TOP Server Project" or our Quick Start Guide.

Verify Device Communications

• Once the Channel has been created, create the device, then the tag.
• Next open the Quick Client by clicking on the OPC icon.
• Open the folder on the top right hand window that matches the target "channel.device" name only.
• This tag should read the device address.  If this is does not work, the next step is to troubleshoot communication.  If the TOP Server machine is not actually connected to a device you will need to set the TOP Server Device Configuration to Simulation.
• Once this is successful we can start work on connecting Wonderware InTouch.

Verify Wonderware Configuration

• Open the Edit menu in the server and the Alias map.
• Assign an alias to the Channel.Device name.  this will be the Topic name used within Wonderware, alternately use the defaults listed.  See the page on the Alias Map for more information
• The application name used is servermain for v4.x.  The application name for v5.x and v6.x is server_runtime.  See this link for detailed application notes.
