Does the TOP Server InTouch Client driver support InTouch 2023 and newer?

The TOP Server InTouch Client driver is intended for use with AVEVA InTouch, formerly Wonderware InTouch, versions released prior to InTouch 2023.

Starting with InTouch 2023, AVEVA increased the maximum supported lengths for InTouch tag names and descriptions. The TOP Server InTouch Client driver relies on AVEVA’s InTouch External Database Access (IEDA) Toolkit, which AVEVA is not updating to support these newer limits.

What is the recommended connectivity method for InTouch 2023 and newer?

AVEVA provides an OPC UA interface for InTouch 2023 and newer. Applications should use this OPC UA interface instead of the TOP Server InTouch Client driver.

If the InTouch OPC UA data must be converted or exposed through OPC DA or another protocol, consider one of the following options:

• TOP Server OPC Client Suite

  • The TOP Server OPC Client Suite can connect TOP Server to the AVEVA OPC UA interface and make the data available through TOP Server’s supported client interfaces and protocols.

• Cogent DataHub OPC Gateway

  • The Cogent DataHub OPC Gateway can connect to the AVEVA OPC UA interface and bridge the data to OPC DA or other supported interfaces.

Important: For InTouch 2023 and newer installations, use an OPC UA-based architecture rather than the TOP Server InTouch Client driver.
